Kichili Samba Rice Ven Pongal - கிச்சிலி சம்பா அரிசி பொங்கல்

 Kichili Samba Rice is a Rare traditional rice Variety. It has Many Health Benefits. It is diabetic Friendly Rice Variety,  it is So Good for diabetic Patients. It boots immune system, so it fights againts viruses. This Rice also improves bones strengthening. I tried Pongal with this Recipe, came out so well. The taste of the Pongal is also so delicious. So i Wanted to share with you.

               




Kichili Samba Rice 

 Prep Time :  10  Minutes. 
Cook Time : 20 Minutes.
Recipe Category traditional Rice Recipes.

Serves : 3.

Ingredients


Kichili Samba Rice - 1 cup.
Moongdal - 1/2 cup.
Water -  5   cup.
Salt - as required

For Tempering 

Ghee -  6 tbsp.
Cumin Seeds - 1.5 tsp
Pepper Corns - 1.5 tsp.
Ginger - 1.5 inch (chopped)
curry leaves - few
Cashews - 10.

Method

 1. Take a vessel, add Kichili Samba Rice & Moong dal, wash & drain the Water.


2. Add 5 cups of water & keep it aside for 2 hours.



3.  To the cooker, add 2 cups of water, Now Place the vessel with Rice & Moongdal into the Cooker & close the lid.

4. Pressure Cook for 5 - 6 whistles. Then switch off the flame.

5. Now  heat the Ghee in a kadai,add cashews when it turns slightly golden brown colour, add cumin,pepper corns,curry leaves,ginger saute for few seconds till you get nice aroma and keep it aside.

6. When Pressure subsides open the lid.



7. Then  mash the pongal with ladle. Add salt Mix well. 
                                  
                                 

8.Add Tempering to Pongal.


9. Mix well & Serve hot.
   
It goes very well with Nuvvula Pachadi, Sambar,  & coconut chutney.




Notes

1. You can also use crushed cumin & Pepper corns to Pongal
 2. Mashing the cooked rice,enhances the taste of pongal.
serve hot.
3. Always add salt after the Pongal was cooked, else Pongal wont cook properly.
4. if you want to use rock salt, put the salt in small bowl, add little water & keep it aside for 1/2 an hour, salt gets dissolved before using.
