Borugula Upma - Uggani - Murmura Upma - Pori Upma

Borugula Upma is a Popular snack or dinner Recipe made with puffed Rice. It has its origin from Andra. I was introduced to puffed Rice, when we visited Mantralayam Mutt. There they served this Recipe in Dinner.The taste of upma was awesome. it is also a kids friendly Recipe. you can make,when kids arrives from school. Even a bachelor Recipe too.


Ingredients

Puffed Rice - 5 cups.
curry leaves - 1 sprig.
Big Onion - 2.
Roasted Peanuts - 3 tbsp.
chilli powder - 1 tsp.
coriander leaves - few for Garnishing.
turmeric powder -1/4 tsp.
salt - as needed.
Fried Gram - 1 handful.

To Temper

Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp.
cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp.
channadal - 2 tsp.
urad dal - 1 tsp.


Preparation
  • Take a Bowl with water, soak the puffed rice for 2 - 3 minutes. Then squeeze the puffed Rice, & keep it aside.
  • Dry Grind the Fried Gram(putnala Pappu) in a mixie into a fine Powder. 




Method
  • Heat the oil, add mustard seeds.When it splutters add cumin seeds.
  • When it sizzles, add chanadal,urad dal & curry leaves.
  • When dal's turns Golden, add chopped onions.
  • Saute onions till it turns pink, then add Roasted peanuts.
  • Add chilli powder,turmeric powder & salt.
  • saute for a minute. Add squeezed puffed Rice& fried gram powder.

  • Mix well. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  • Serve Hot.
Notes
  • you can add chopped tomato for tangy taste. 
  • you can also add one  Grated carrot.
