Carrot dal is an Easy dal Recipe made with Carrots & dal. This dal Goes well with chapathi,Roti,Phulka & Jeera Rice. It is a kids friendly side dish Recipe.Carrots boots the immune system. Ingredients
Moong dal / Masoor dal - 1/2 cup.
Carrot - 4 (small size) or 2 (large size)
Pearl onions - 15.
Tomato - 2.
Ginger - 1/2 inch.
Turmeric - 1/2 tsp.
Chilli Powder - 1/2 tsp.
Salt - to taste.
To temper
Ghee/oil - to fry.
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp.
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp.
Green chillies - 2 -3.
Garlic - 4 (crushed)
hing - Generous Pinch.
Curry leaves - 1 sprig.
Preparation
- chop the pearl onions,tomatoes,Ginger & Green chillies finely.
- Peel the skin of carrots & chop it.
- Slightly crush the Garlic.
Method
- Take a small cooker wash & add Moong dal, chopped onions,tomato,Ginger,Turmeric & chilli Powder. Add nearly 1 + 1/2 cups of water, such that dal immerse in water.
- Pressure Cook for 4 - 5 whistles.
- When the pressure subsides, open the lid,slightly mash the dal with masher or whisk.Then add needed water,according to the consistency & allow it to boil for 4 - 5 minutes.
- Meanwhile heat the Ghee, add mustard seeds when it splutters add cumin seeds when it sizzles add Green chillies,Garlic & curry leaves.When Garlic turns Golden brown colour add hing, give a quick mix.
- Pour the Tadka over the dal. Serve hot with chapathi,Roti or Rice.
Notes
- I used Moong dal instead you can use Masoor dal also.
- you can add 2 to 3 tsp of lemon juice, to dal before serving.
- you can add 1/4 tsp of Garam Masala to Enhance the flavour.
- Making the tadka using Ghee gives nice flavour to dal.
- Crush the Garlic for nice aroma.
