Ven Pongal is also called Katte Pongali, Kattu Pongal, Nei Pongal,Pongal,Ghee Pongal, Milagu Pongal, Khara Pongal, Uppu Pongal,Pappu Pongal,.It is a Popular breakfast recipe.It is served in a temple as Prasadam.Ven Pongal is Made during Navaratri & Pongal, sankaranthi Occasions.
Ingredients
Raw rice - 1 cup.
Moongdal - 1/2 cup.
Water - 5 + 1/4 cup.
Salt - as required
For Tempering
Ghee - 6 tbsp.
Cumin Seeds - 1.5 tsp
Pepper Corns - 1.5 tsp.
Pepper Corns - 1.5 tsp.
Ginger - 1.5 inch (chopped)
curry leaves - few
Cashews - 10.

Method
- Pressure cook Rice and Moongdal together with 5 + 1/4 cups of water for 1 whistle, then keep it in Sim mode for 5 minutes.Then switch off the flame.
- When pressure subsides, heat the Ghee in a kadai,add cashews when it turns slightly golden brown colour, add cumin,pepper corns,curry leaves,ginger saute for few seconds till you get nice aroma and keep it aside.
- Stir well and Serve hot.
- It goes very well with Nuvvula Pachadi, Sambar, & coconut chutney.

Notes
- You can also use crushed cumin & Pepper corns to Pongal
- Mashing the cooked rice,enhances the taste of pongal.
